The drive towards extending the scope of the BTCC could put other series' efforts to shame.
TOCA Radio returns to the BTCC for 2001. The service will be present at all 13 race meetings and it will be a focal point within the Paddock area for regular interviews and features. It will also provide a dedicated feed into the new TOCA Tour website (currently under development), which will provide both streaming and compressed audio reports throughout each race weekend. Web cams are another possibility.
The website (not using the old domain) will be ready for the pre-season launch on March 26. It is expected to contain history, Championship details, driver and personality interviews, chat room and forum facilities, competitions and the audio reports mentioned above. There will be a continually updated results and Championship positions service and, in addition, there will be a secure passworded area for media and teams to receive confidential targeted information.
RSM (Results Sports Management) will be working with the Championship to develop a public awareness campaign utilising shopping centre promotions prior to each race. A “significantly sized unit” will operate within each shopping centre complex, consisting of a TOCA Tour backdrop featuring two display video monitors showing video footage of the series, plus space to display two full size cars, one of which will always be a BTC Touring car.
The campaign will operate as follows:
Brands Hatch – 15 / 16 April – Bluewater Shopping Centre – Thurs-Sat
Thruxton – 6 / 7 May – Walks Shopping Centre, Basingstoke – Fri-Sun
Oulton Park – 19 / 20 May – Trafford Centre, Manchester – Thurs-Sat
Silverstone – 1 / 2 June – The Centre, Milton Keynes – Tues-Thurs
Mondello Park – 16 / 17 June – The Blanchards, Dublin – Thurs-Sat
Donington Park – 30 June / 1 July – Victoria Centre, Nottingham – Thurs-Sat
Knockhill – 21 / 22 July – Gyle Shopping Centre, Edinburgh – Thurs-Sat
Snetterton – 3 / 4 August – Grafton Centre, Cambridge – Wed-Fri
Croft – 11 / 12 August – Eldon Square, Newcastle – Thurs-Sat
Oulton Park – 25 / 26 August – Arndale Centre, Manchester – Thurs-Sat
Silverstone – 8 / 9 September – Brent Cross, North London – Thurs-Sat
Donington Park – 22 / 23 September – Shires Shopping Centre, Leicester – Thurs-Sat
Brands Hatch – 6 / 7 October – Lakeside Shopping Centre, Thurrock – Thurs-Sat
A regionalised radio campaign supporting each TOCA Tour race meeting will help point potential fans towards the shopping centre promotions.
