Fort Worth, Texas—A very quick look at the result.

An appropriate expression from David Brabham – who was 10 minutes away from a magical win in the Panoz LMP07.

Until that moment, it seemed as though he might have been going for the flag, but Dave Price must have known all along that he couldn’t.

Tom Kjos will forward his view of proceedings very soon, but it was a classic Prototype thrash from the top five cars. Ultimately, Capello / Kristensen took the win for Audi, with the car that started from the back row in second place. Brabham and Magnussen finished third after their splash and dash, Dorsey Schroeder bringing the Champion Audi into an ultimately disappointing fourth. Graf and Salles were fifth after a late delay for a splash that might have seemed unnecessary half an hour earlier.

Alex Job took 1 –2 in GT, while GTS and LMP675 were as disappointing as expected. But GT was a thriller, with Lehto and Muller heavily involved until the last half hour. The Luhr / Maassen Porsche walked away with the GT lead, thanks to luckily being just ahead of the overall leader when the first yellow fell and thus gained a lap on its competitors. But a good four way battle for second in GT went on for a long time between Menzel (no. 22 Porsche), Jonsson (no. 10 BMW), Stuck (no. 6 BMW), and Wollek (no. 30 Porsche). They were nose to tail for some time until Jonsson bowed out, being another to pick up a puncture on the debris strewn track.

The LMP900 class was a classic, though.

More details from Tom Kjos, of a fascinating and dramatic event, on Monday morning, GMT.
