After our qualifying report was filed, come changes to the grid at Mosport. Dyson Racing's R&S has been reported to have failed the 'stall test'. That is a simple procedure in which, with the engine at idle, the restrictor inlets are covered. If the engine does not stall (kill) there is air getting to the cylinders from some other source. Was the wing also too high?

The formerly pole-winning BMW GTR of JJ Lehto was found to have a ride-height infraction. An illegally low ride height gives the car an aerodynamic advantage outside the rules. That car is also moved to the back of the grid.

The Reynard 01Q-Judd of apparent LMP 675 pole winner Didier de Radigues did not conform to regulations in the rear diffuser area, so that too goes to the back.

Bill Auberlen has been ruled out of this race and that at Mid Ohio for "precautionary" reasons. Joe Foster, an ALMS regular, and chief instructor for the Panoz Racing School, will replace him in the #10 PTG BMW GTR. Tom Milner: "Bill is back at the track with no serious injury and that is the most important thing to me. I am very unhappy about what happened to my driver. The disrespect shown for our car today was unnecessarily dangerous. That said, we will repair the No. 10 M3 tonight and see where we are tomorrow in morning warm-up."

"I’m really sorry about what happened," explained Max Angelelli. "I hope that Bill is okay and that the team can repair their car and make it to the race."

A headline from PSCR indicates that a third car was moved to the back for a technical violation, but does not identify it. We will find out more on this as soon as possible.

The rear of the grid will be quite interesting. Hopefully, NBC's coverage will retain the early race footage when they join the race in progress. Here are the cars at the back of the grid, in some order:

#3 Corvette C5-R
#10 BMW GTR
#42 BMW GTR
#16 Riley & Scott Mark IIIC Lincoln

You think there might be some early on-track passing? More than F1 sees in
a season.
