Final Qualifying
Quick Summary

The grid may look a little odd with the Risi Ferrari fastest overall but in third place, but that was a result of yesterday's wet, all in one session, which sorted out the top two spots. "If it rains, we're in deep trouble," remarked Ralf Kelleners. But "you could fly to the moon with this kind of driver line-up." 250 000 miles between services on a Ferrari now Ralf? Who would you get to service it there?

Jon Field was an impressive second fastest, fourth on the grid. "We may be lacking a little speed down the straightaway, but we got through the chicane pretty good," commented Jon Field. "We're running the race engine and that was a pretty good time for the race engine."

The least representative SRP time is the Crawford's 1:46.477. They were using their new motor, and K Doran is too wise to risk that to gain a few grid places. "This is an endurance race so to start in the pole position or to start in the eleventh position has no bearing on the outcome of the race," said Didier Theys.

The Bob Akin R&S (Norman Simon) and the TRV R&S were both in the 1:44s, sandwiching the Schubot Lola. Tom Volk was jubilant - about his car's Qualifying time and the fact that his driver change was the fastest.

The #0 Bytzek Porsche took GTS pole on its last flying lap (in more overcast, damp conditions), ousting the Corvettes. Right behind #0 is the Bjork / Dickens / Loven / Oberto Lola, on the SRPll pole. 1:47.035 is very impressive. Thed Bjork again. Euser dipped below 1:50 in the faster Marcos, a few tenths quicker than the Saleen.

In 31st and 32nd were the two quickest cars in GT, the Mosler and the 5 liter BMW. Fastest in the Porsche class was Luca Riccitelli in the Red Bull 911 GT3R, about a second away from these two newcomers. Porsches fill out the 1:54s / 1:55s / 1:56s in a massed throng, waiting for the new boys to slip up.
