STEPHANE ORTELLI FASTEST IN N-GT

Stephane Ortelli set provisional pole position in the N-GT category in his No 54 Freisinger Motorsport Porsche 996 GT3-R, 14th position overall. Ortelli headed four more Porsches in a fantastically tight class, and only Andrea Bertolini was able to make the Super Pole session for Ferrari, sixth fastest in class.

Ortelli set a time of 1:34.736 to head the No 76 RWS Motorsport Porsche of Antonio Garcia and Hans Fertl, and the No 58 Autorlando Sport Porsche of Philipp Peter and Toto Wolff. “That was one of my best laps,” said Ortelli. “I drove here for the first time yesterday, and I have learned the circuit very quickly I think! I want Sascha to do the Super Pole because he has more experience on the new tyres.”

The Autorlando Sport team changed Peter’s engine after it failed yesterday during the free practice. “This engine is not as good as the other one,” said Peter. “This is a standard engine while the other one had work done to it by the team. There is not a big spread between the top teams; it is very close between us.”

The championship-leading No 50 JMB Racing Ferrari 360 Modena of Christian Pescatori and Andrea Montermini missed the top six in class, and therefore the Super Pole, when the gearbox failed leaving Pescatori stranded out on the track. “Something broke on the gearbox,” said Montermini. “I think we could have done better than that. We had the weight in Brno; it makes a difference to the power and on the brakes. The race is three hours long, so I do not think that missing the Superpole will be a problem.”
